English

The standards for English are taken from the renewed Primary Framework for Literacy which forms part of the National Curriculum for England.

The first set of standards shows the expectations for students by year group:

Early Years (Foundation Stage)

Year 1

Year 2

Year 3

Year 4

Year 5

Year 6

Year 6 progression to Year 7

The second set of standards shows the expectations for the different strands of the English Frameworks and makes it easier to see progression through the primary school years:

5. Word recognition: decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling)

6. Word structure and spelling

7. Understanding and interpreting texts

8. Engaging with and responding to texts

9. Creating and shaping texts
