Membership Report

Excerpts from comments made by the COIS Membership Visitor:

Compass International School (CISDoha) demonstrates its commitment to internationalism in a wide variety of ways including posters, displays, approaches to learning, celebrations, debate and shared understandings, and in a novel approach whereby parents take responsibility for the monthly entrance foyer display to reflect global cultures and citizenship.  During the visit, the display was changing from USA to Indian in theme impressing the visitor with an in-depth look at aspects of culture and awareness to benefit both the school in aesthetic terms and the students for learning.

The students’ reports contain a section asking teachers to report on students’ understanding of, approaches to and achievements in internationalism.

The school clearly understands how its guiding statements shape every aspect of school life

The visitor concurs with the school’s statements and additionally notes that international mindedness is assessed for each student in their report.  The new school brochure is a fine example of how the school is endeavouring to reinforce this message even before students are admitted to the school.

The visitor concurs with the school’s comments. However, she thinks it goes well beyond the written curriculum and ‘charitable, MUN and Qatar debates’ and that the school really tries to make it an intrinsic part of the philosophy of belonging to CISDoha.

The appointment of a person to the role of Head of Learning has shown how committed the school and board are to ensuring cohesiveness and continuity for the students’ learning experiences at CISDoha.  The visitor concurs with the other statements the school has made about itself and wishes CISDoha every success in its quest for IBDP authorisation.

The visitors agrees with the school’s comments on assessment and notes that data on student progress is well logged and interpreted to ensure it is used to inform the subsequent stages of learning.

The evidence suggests to the visitor that the current head is a competent, well qualified and experienced individual who is doing an excellent job in running the school.

The visitor noted that there seemed ample numbers of staff members to meet the students’ needs. 

In terms of teacher accommodation, CISDoha exceeds the requirements by ensuring teachers have good quality, superior accommodation to  promote a happy, harmonious entry into Qatar life and consequently are able to concentrate on the task of being a good teacher rather than worrying about inferior accommodation.

Without a doubt, CISDoha ensures students’ learning needs are met at all levels of competence and ability.The nurses are highly competent individuals. 

The nurse is justifiably proud that so many staff members have received first aid training.

The school has a positive atmosphere where students feel safe and valued.  Learning takes a high priority, of course, but there are plenty of other aspects of school life of which the school should feel proud.
